Valley Lawn

Valley Lawn is our founder Laura’s own home: an 1893 Queen Anne Victorian and one of the first houses built in Kensington. It had last been updated in the 1970s, and over four and a half years we brought it back to life. Working with Anne Decker Architects, we reworked the first floor and added a one-story family room. We fully reimagined the second floor, adding a 54-square-foot bump-out over the rear porch to make room for both a primary suite and a guest suite. The finished home has 3,800 square feet, four bedrooms, and four and a half baths. Inside, many rooms have contemporary architecture and details. They sit against the home’s historic bones, much of which remain, including the original windows and casings, staircase, and railing. The interplay of old and new gives the interiors a quiet, deliberate tension. Outside, the house keeps its traditional character, in step with its history and its Kensington neighbors.
